How to Register a DBA or Fictitious Business Name [Video]

It’s surprising how complicated it can be to pick a name.

There is a lot riding on the choice of a business name, so it’s not a decision to be taken lightly.

Think how many different factors there are to consider – like whether someone else is already using your chosen name, how similar their business is to yours, and whether the name has been trademarked (oh yeah, and you can trademark at both the federal AND the state level).

You even want to consider whether there is a closely matching domain name available for your business blog or website. Why go to the trouble of registering a DBA if you have to pick a domain name that seems completely unrelated?

Not to mention all of the social media accounts you need to register for (we’re looking at you, Qwikster!).

So I prepared a quick video tutorial to show you the exact steps you need to take in order to register a fictitious business name.

Every county has a slightly different system, but this should cover the basics (although it’s by no means comprehensive).
