010: Guy Kawasaki | The Artisanal Publishing Movement + Book Giveaway

smart business revolution podcast, entrepreneurship, small business, entrepreneurWhen an unpublished writer decries the state of traditional publishing, people roll their eyes.

When someone who has written and published a dozen books says traditional publishing is dying, then it’s time to sit up and pay attention.

Guy Kawasaki is the latter type.

While he doesn’t think traditional publishing is going to go away entirely, he does see huge potential in the ability of authors to publish their own books using platforms created by the Amazon Kindle and other e-readers.

The author of Enchantment, What the Plus? and 10 other books, Guy has just written and published his latest – APE: Author, Publisher, Entrepreneur-How to Publish a Book.

APE aims to become the Bible for publishing, promoting and selling a book without using a traditional publisher. Think of APE as the “Chicago Manual of Style” for getting a book published in the 21st century.

Just don’t call it “self-publishing” Guy actually prefers the term “artisanal publishing” over “self-publishing” — which he says is more appropriate to the handcrafted, customized nature of self-publishing today. It is also suggestive of fine wine or cheese, which sounds a lot better than “vanity publishing” or something more derogatory.

Guy Kawasaki, APE, EnchantmentGuy was very generous to spend about a half hour of his time talking about the artisanal publishing movement.

Even better – he donated a couple of copies of his new book for Smart Business Revolution podcast listeners!
