John Corcoran 0:40

I’m the host of this show, the Smart Business Revolution Podcast, and every week I get to talk to smart CEOs, founders, authors, entrepreneurs, all kinds of companies and organizations ranging from YPO, EO, Activision Blizzard, Lendingtree, Open Table, and so many more. I’m also the Co-founder of Rise25, where we help connect b2b business owners to their ideal prospects. And before I mention today’s guests, I wanna give a shout out to my business partner, Dr. Jeremy Weisz, who has known our esteemed guest for many years. He’s interviewed him many times before and collaborated with him on different projects over the years, but this is my first time interviewing him. And I’ve been a fan of his for a while, so I’m excited about that.

So our guest is Perry Marshall. Perry Marshall is a business consultant, copywriting legend, and founder of the $10 million Evolution 2.0 Prize, which aims to solve the number of mysteries in artificial intelligence and the origin of life itself. He is one of the most sought after business strategists. Perry has guided 1000s of clients in hundreds of different industries from the startup stage to building a multi million dollar enterprise. He’s also the host of the Evolution 2.0 Podcast, the best-selling author of multiple books, including “80/20 Sales and Marketing”, a tremendous book, I highly recommend it. His latest book is “Detox , Declutter, Dominate: How to Excel by Elimination”. And of course, before we get into this Perry, this episode is brought to you by Rise25 Media, where we help b2b businesses to get clients, referrals, and strategic partnerships with done for you podcasts and content marketing. Alright, Perry, such a pleasure to have you here. And at the risk of annoying you because I’m sure you’ve answered so many different questions about it before, but you are most well known for the 80/20 principle. And it’s a tremendous book that has had an impact on so many people’s lives. People cite it, you know, all the time, it’s like, you should have to take a shot every time someone mentions age 20. But, um, talk a little bit about that principle for anyone who’s been living under a rock and doesn’t really know what that has anything to do with?

Perry Marshall 2:46
Well, I would like to speak to the person who figures they probably know it at 20 years. Because, well, with all due respect, you probably don’t. And I would be the poster child for that. Well, I used to have this job as a sales manager and I read in a book somewhere that 80% of your sales come from 20% of your customers and 20% of your sales come from the other 80%. I thought is that right? insurance? I checked, and it was true. But I thought well, that’s interesting. Obviously, some of them are a lot more important than others. Okay, I get that. And that was about it. Well, I really, I really didn’t understand that there are several layers to this that make it incredibly powerful. Okay, the first thing is that it’s not just net worths and real estate and customers, it’s almost everything, especially in business, but it’s also like the size of craters on the moon, I mean, it, it is literally universal. Secondly, it’s recursive. There’s an 80/20, inside every at 20. And another one and another one in another one, which means there’s

that’s what blows my mind.
